Running this country after Bush, or running the Pittsburgh Pirates? "President Obama thinks he stepped into a bad situation. I'd take two wars and the worst economy since the Great Depression over a starting rotation that included Matt Morris and Ian Snell." sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/090605&sportCat=mlbIf the Pirates ever get respectable and I started watching baseball again, I'd probably have to relearn the rules. Awhile back I saw a box score and couldn't remember what the three columns of numbers stood for (I have since remembered that they stand for runs, hits, and errors).

Not that I'm looking for anyone to feel sorry for me. In case you forgot, I am a fan of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins!
I'll take the worst organization in sports, if I get two of the best along with it.

Not to get political, but it's not like Obama couldn't have righted EVERY SINGLE WRONG BUSH DID. But Obama deliberately has chosen not to. Just goes to show that we have a one party system in this nation. We've all been duped.
He could have ended the war in the ME, instead he chose to expand it.
He could have chosen to prosecute the ENTIRE Bush administration for war crimes, but he has chosen to protect them.
He could have righted the economy by NOT continuing the Bush's tax payer bailouts, but he has given them more. It's the Teapot Dome Scandal, part two. These companies that we're "bailing" out are failing anyway. Congress should be ashamed of themselves.
He keeps complaining about inheriting a deficit, but then has already spent trillions more.
He could have ended the detaining of terrorists, but instead has chosen preventive detention (a line that not even Bush and Cheney had the balls to cross).
He's reinforced the Patriot Act, which the left has been howling about for 7 years. Didn't even think about abolishing it.
No, if he wasn't such a puppet, he could already be the GREATEST U.S. President ever. Just by ordering a halt to all the injustices Bush and Cheney heaped upon us. That's how horrible Bush was. Obama doesn't even have to do anything, he just has not NOT do what Bush did. And he would be considered great.
No, I will NEVER have sports sympathy for you, not for at least ten years.

Make it twenty. Two Super Bowls, one Cup. So far.

Is Pitt the new Boston? They had the Patriots and Celtics and Red Sox winning rings, a revived Bruins team.
Although, Pittsburgh could never match the sheer arrogance and annoyance of Boston fans.

By the way, I HIGHLY recommend Rise of the Fourth Reich by Jim Marrs. If you want an, um, interesting perspective of the Bush legacy and philosophy.

Nah, wouldn't have mattered. We'd be in the exact same situation with either Gore or Kerry, as Obama has proven.
Even though the Bush family has their fingerprints all over 9/11 (yeah, I'm one of "those guys") it still would have gone down exactly as it did with anyone else in office.

WOW! Where do I start? There are so many good quotes here.
One of the great lines in the movie "The Hunt for Red October" was when a politician said, "I'm a politician which means when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops." Remember the whole fable about a "budget surplus" under Clinton? Both sides were already trying to spend the money BEFORE it even materialized.
IF 9/11 has Bush's fingerprints all over it, does the FIRST attempt of blowing up the word trade center with a truck bomb in the lower parking garage have Clinton's all over it? Just remember that it was under Clinton's watch that these guys learned how to fly in the US with false documents.
Our children are being dumbed down. Look at the people they keep electing to office. Gov't...cradle to grave is the motto.
Oh, can you have "war crimes" when we are not at war??
I too am one of "those guys". The ones that know the Red Wings have the NHL commissioner against them. Cindy Crosby and the rest were helped greatly by the worst commissioner in the history of the NHL and probably all of sports history. (Matt Millen can't count since he was just a GM. But he has his own spot.) Cindy didn't even have the sportsmanship to shake hands at the end of the game. The Cup will forever have an asterisk engraved on it.
For example: Malkin gets an instigating penalty at the end of game two. An automatic next game suspension. BUT within 45 minutes the league is waving it off. No suspension. A hockey, not Red Wings, sports writer wrote how bad that was. Game three had six penguin players in the Detroit zone for nearly 30 seconds and not one of the 4 officials noticed but the TV announcer did. Too many men on the ice..no call. Another TV announcer commented how the refs were not calling penalties against Pitt. Bettman has publicly said that he does not want the same team winning The Cup back-to-back. Even my sister told me that she doesn't know a whole lot but could tell that the refs were not calling penalties.
Bettman just can't stand that the Red Wings have been the best hockey team for the past decade pre-cap and post salary cap.
Bush, Obama. Bettman vs Red Wings....Truth vs. conspiracy.
And to answer the question...It's a trick question. Running the country is difficult because you have a bunch of greedy people in positions to better themselves only and baseball is ...well...baseball. Just not worth anyone's time.

Hey, Adam started it!
What's the view of the baseball fans regarding a salary cap (and floor)? I think it would be a great thing for baseball, but I'm curious what real baseball fans think.

I used to think that baseball didn't need a salary cap or floor. But that was back when the payroll disparity between the top and bottom teams was something like a $60 million. Now it's zooming past $130 million.
It's not so much that the small market teams can't compete. They can. Occasionally. A well-run small market team will be able to make the occasional spurt for 3-4 years like the Indians, Rays of last year, and the Marlins. But it's unsustainable.
Meanwhile, the Mets, Yankees, Cubs and Red Sox will never ever have a losing season ever again. They can't lose. And that's what's bothersome. They can make dumb moves (they often do) and can bandage up a problem with a huge contract. They can make several mistakes and still sail to a 87+ win season. But the rest of the league have to play it just perfectly and hope to catch lightning in a bottle for those same 87 wins.
I'll admit that it's making MLB unwatchable for me. I enjoy fantasy baseball more than I do real baseball at this point.
