Two years ago I posted my newfound interest in metal and asked the question:
That got me some great comments, such as
"It's a phase." -FatMenace
"it's a phase.....just like slaton was" -andyroosky
"That ought to be one homely looking bunch. It'll all be either 50 year old metal leftovers or 15 year olds thinking they're alternative. All will be wearing Iron Maiden T-shirts to the concert." -gk
"Not all metal is created equal. There is some pretty bad metal out there. The best was 80s into early 90s. On occassion I've come across some metal that is good but I tend to stay wrapped up in the classic past when metal ruled all that was good and decent in the world." -grubbi
"There's nothing worse than the incorrect labeling of hard rock as metal. " -The Mayor
"It's not a phase it the completing of a well rounded person interest in good music. Classical with metal. Creates the right type of mindset. Creativity with rage." -Red
I would have crowed a year later but that board died. In the intervening time I've managed to see DragonForce and Mastodon (and Dethklok a second time). I'm happy to report that today I got my ticket to see Iron Maiden again this summer (along with Dream Theater). And this time I'll have an Iron Maiden t-shirt to wear to the show so I won't stick out!

Two negatives:
1. The concert is in the AT&T Center. The acoustics in there are awful, as I learned during the Final Frontier Tour in 2010. A better bet is the Houston show on Saturday the following weekend. Sounds like Barger is heading to that one.
2. I will be in Indianapolis during that series of show, getting my nerd on at GenCon.
I did see Megadeth last night, along with Lacuna Coil and Volbeat. Great show, I will be seeing Megadeth again!

Maiden will be in Dallas, Aug 17 and Woodlands Aug 18 also.
Megadeth!! Metal never dies!!!
Apparently, metal in Europe is still pretty big. I've come across some bands that aren't that bad from Europe on Youtube.
