These are movies that are available for streaming as of 6/6/2010 that I've seen that I love (that you may not have seen). Amelie Dead Like Me: Season 1 - Really great concept of a show. But like 'Arrested' got totally screwed by its network. It only lasted two seasons and Season 2 is kind of a mess by the end. Kabluey - Filmed in Austin!Overnight - Doc about the guy who wrote 'Boondock Saints' and what a conceited prick he is. Trucker - Saw this at a film festival. Ebert said the lead woman should have been nominated for Best Actress and won it. Counter point: SHE DIDN'T HELP A POOR BLACK CHILD SUCCEED. The Visitor Chalk - Also filmed in Austin. Fake doc about teaching. Also, the most realistic movie about teacher ever. Hump Day - Movie about two straight buddies that try to make a gay porn. Hilarious. Step Brothers - Underrated Will Ferrell film. This Film is Not Yet Rated - Do you know how movies achieve their MPAA rating? Neither does anyone on Earth. Demitri Martin. Person. - For those who find wry observations, grammar humor, and graphs funny. Kazaam! - Yes, it's available on instant viewing. Use this time to cross this off your bucket list. |

Oh and the Ken Burns National Parks series is also on instant viewing right now. I've seen some of them. Very excellent in that Ken Burns-y sort of way.

This is a great post. Netflix streaming is a gift from the gods.
Here are some recs from me:
After the Wedding - when was the last time you saw a Danish film? Great artsy foreign film, if you like that kinda thing.
Che - long, but I thought it was excellent.
Friday Night Lights - a little too much high school drama at times, but I still think this is a great TV series.
Man on Wire - if you haven't seen this excellent documentary, you must see it. One of the few docs I've watched multiple times.
Tell No One - great French thriller. See it before the US version comes out and probably ruins it.
What Would Jesus Buy? - another great doc about Rev Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping. Great stuff.
Oddly enough, most of these films are subtitled, don't let that detour you.

Man on Wire was indeed excellent. It offers a great subject for the documentary. And the last 45 minutes kept me spellbound.
Che was also very good. Which reminds me: 'The Motorcycle Diaries' is also on Netflix Instant Viewing.

We just watched Criminal with John C Reilly. I thought it was great. It was weird at first since I have a hard time taking him serious, but he played a con man superbly.

Also ready for viewing: This American Life, season 1. Not a fan of the TV half-hour version of the show, but it does include the "Ask an Iraqi" segment.
Also, "Timer" an independent movie that never came out in theaters that Steph and I saw at a film festival last year. Check it out, if just so the makers of the movie get a little extra cash.
And lastly for now, the Sarah Silverman Program, season 1.

Bumping this up with another couple recommendations that are now on Netflix Instant Viewing.
Zombieland. Featuring perhaps the greatest cameo of all time.
Ponyo. A classically animated kids movie that is truly amazing.
Moon.

Now that we have a Wii, I'm thinking of paring down our Netflix to one-at-a-time.
"Exit Through the Gift Shop" just went up. Probably the most interesting movie I've seen in years.
You can also watch all of "Weeds".
"Happy Accidents" is a nice rom-com with an alleged alien from another planet. Also nice if you want to see where the weird cop from Criminal Intent came from.
"District 9" is also available. Although I don't think I liked that movie as much as everyone else in the world.

Check out "A Christmas Tale." It's a weird French movie but I like it. It's now available on streaming.
