In honor of tonight's Oscars - which are probably best described as "everything I hate about the world wrapped up in a 5 hour, obese network broadcast" - here is a post on the worst best picture winners. eddieonfilm.blogspot.com/2006/04/and-losers-are.htmlCan't say I agree with "American Beauty" being on that list. And I forget what else was nominated alongside "Gladiator", that might or might not deserve to be on here. I wasn't aware "Rocky" beat out "All the President's Men", "Network", and "Taxi Driver." That's kind of incredible.

I saw Shakespeare in Love right after it got the Oscar. I walked out of the theater and decided that if the Academy really liked a film, I probably wasn't interested in it.
Though for me the biggest farce was 2001 watching a Beautiful Mind win. While it was a great picture Peter Jackson had really done something incredible and innovative in bringing the Fellowship of the Ring to life. While he got Best Picture for Return of the King in 2003, it was more an achievement award for the three films he'd made. And of those Fellowship was the first inkling, and in my opinion the best of the three films.

And yes, Crash will top that list for eternity.

Chad, is your indignant that Braveheart won the Oscar, or is on that list?
Cause I watched Braveheart a couple years ago, and I would possibly consider putting it #1 on this list (possibly...).

Um, I'm indignant that it's on this list.
It gets better with each viewing.

Slumdog was pretty awful too.

Disagree with that. But I'm a Danny Boyle apologist to the max.

If "The Kings Speech" wins, will that be added to the list?

I thought Kings Speech was good, but no one will remember it in a few years. I liked Black Swan and Social Network more.
