Post your thoughts so far. How far are you? There are spoilers in the season five thread, but we mostly just type one sentence.
The Saul show can be good if they show how he got involved with Fring, would love to see Mike, maybe Tuco or Crazy Eight. Whoever.
No spoilers, but season 5B is one long HOLY SH*T moment.

I think the thing that's really holding the show back (1 1/2 seasons in) is that it doesn't know if it wants to be "The Wire" or "Weeds". It gets kind of ... silly at times, in a Weeds-ish sort of way. For the record, I really liked Weeds.
I'm going to assume that it gets more Wire in Seasons 2.5 and 3.

I'd say it's neither. It's certainly not Weeds but also doesn't go for full realism. I've always struggled to define it. Maybe surrealist? I'm not sure that's right.

On an interview with Grantland this week, Dean Norris (Hank) used the word 'operatic'. Which fits. I won't give spoilers, but at some point you meet two twins. They're not real characters, people like that don't exist. You'll meet a character later who has a moment where he straightens his tie (cooler than it sounds). Not even remotely real. Yeah, operatic. It makes sense now that Dean said the word.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm getting at. That's perfect.

Pretty obnoxious to not be able to go on twitter every Sunday night for fear of BB spoilers.
Update: finished season 2. I did get a hint of Wire when the pollo hermanos guy was hanging with the police dudes. I forsee good things there.

I work nights so in most cases I record and then watch Monday morning. Can't get on Twitter or FB since I have too many friends who will strongly imply, or outright reveal, what happened.

It's awful when trying to follow Sunday Night Football & depressing Browns' post-game conferences.

Almost done with season three. Episode where Skyler concocts the gambling thing is probably my favorite episode. That scene was tv porn. Ditto for the scene between Walter and the pollos hermanos guys.

There were a few. Which one?

There were a few. Which one? Good point. I was specifically referring to the one where Walter was confronting him about the assassination attempt on Hank. Though I could have been referring to the one where they're in the hospital while Frank was unconcious.

high praise
"This was sent to us by the Great Actor Anthony Hopkins:
Dear Mister Cranston. I wanted to write you this email - so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber - I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.
I've just finished a marathon of watching "BREAKING BAD" - from episode one of the First Season - to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.
I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!
Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen - ever.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really.
But this work of yours is spectacular - absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers.... every department - casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.
From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.
If you ever get a chance to - would you pass on my admiration to everyone - Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada - everyone - everyone gave master classes of performance ... The list is endless.
Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.
You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen. That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It's almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.
Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.
Best regards
Tony Hopkins."
