From the AP-Lerner did say he would like to bring in a “strong, credible, serious leader” to help run his team. That's great. Eight weeks into the season and he realized he needs a "strong, credible, and serious leader," since Mangini and supposed GM Kokinis aren't?

Best part is that Lerner is demanding to figure out Kokinis' position on the team.
Umm... he's the GM?
God what a mess.

I read that he brought in Bernie Kosar as "another set of eyes." Yeah, coaches LOVE that kind of usurping of their authority. Ask Jim Zorn how that Sherman consultantship worked out for him.

I dunno. Mangini seems like the type of guy that can take criticism well.

What are the most dysfunctional teams in pro sports?
Off the top of my head I'd add Pirates, Raiders, Clippers...who else?
Of course, there is a difference between short-term and long term dysfunction. Browns and Raiders are more short term. Pirates are probably the long term champs of dysfunction.

Nationals. Mets. Both short term.

I think you can officially add the Redskins.

Warrants mentioning that Phil Savage is under contract for FOUR MORE YEARS. Crennel just a couple.

You could be looking at a long-term problem here...

In all fairness, I'm not sure Kokinis was ever "in."
And Adam, c'mon, long term? Wait, how many decades before it's considered "long term?" We still have one more to go I think.

Was Kokinis a bad GM or is this a panicky move? Seems like you have to give a coach and GM at least two drafts and seasons to see what they can do.
Unless there's mutiny.

It's not clear that Kokinis ever did anything. The original sin of this whole season was the hiring of Mangini before landing a GM (actually, you could argue that the original original sin was firing Phil Savage last year). Hiring a coach before you hire a GM really limits your GM options. So they essentially had to get a personal friend of Mangini, which they did in Kokinis.
It's really unclear what he did with the Browns. All the personnel decisions appear to have been made by Mangini. The NFL Network reported that Kokinis didn't know Braylon was even traded until he saw it on TV.
I'm picturing the firing went something like the scene in Office Space where they ask him, "What exactly, would you say, you do here?"
I'm thinking that during the bye week, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will be removed or stripped of his duties. Mangini will have until the end of the year.

Just two short seasons ago the Browns went 10-6. They had an easy schedule that year, but still...what happened?
